Beryl Gay

Artist Profile

Beryl Gay is an Australian traditional realist painter and First Nations artist whose work focuses on the spirituality and beauty of the Australian landscape.

Born in Pakenham, Victoria, she spent her formative years on subsistence farms in Gembrook and the Hills of Foster, where she developed her deep love for the Australian bush.

Once her children were grown and left home, she was able to put most of her attention to pursuing her art and subsequently completed a 10 year apprenticeship at the McNeill Academy of Realist art gaining her diploma in 1996.

Now based in Bendigo, Beryl's work reflects a deep attentiveness to place story and identity by blending realism with cultural awareness and personal reconnection. Through her paintings, she honours her family's lineage and cultural inheritance whilst engaging with the present moment, allowing tradition and contemporary life to meet on the canvas.

Beryl has exhibited her artwoks in many group and solo events and has received numerous awards over the years.
